You need to shed some weight but you don’t have the time – or quite frankly, the energy – to get out and jog or join the other gym enthusiasts. In this Sit N Cycle review, I’ll tell you how you can work out in the comfort of your home.
Hello there, my name is Anne and for most of my life, I have been quite the heavy girl. If you are like me and absolutely hate exercising, then losing weight can be quite a challenge. There have been so many tips both on the internet and from people I know on how to go about it. Believe me, I have tried them all and nothing seemed to be working for me. Well, that was until I came across some Sit N Cycle exercise bike reviews.
The Sit N Cycle works simply in that way. You sit and cycle on the exercise bike. Sound pretty easy, right? I must admit, I was a bit skeptical. I mean, how was I supposed to lose weight just by sitting and cycling? Well, I had to try it out and see for myself.
Gaining weight can be quite stressful. Getting rid of all the excess fat can be even worse. Well, it doesn’t have to be; you can think of the Sit N Cycle smooth fitness as a great way to work out without feeling self-conscious. If you have been looking for a great way to lose the extra pounds in a short time, then you may want to consider having a look at this product. I decided to write the Sit N Cycle review to help you decide on whether or not to get it.
Other than the lazy ones, the Sit N Cycle exercise bike is a great addition to the lifestyle of seniors and baby boomers.
If you are looking for a fun and effortless way to burn some calories, then the sit n cycle is just what you need. The exercise bike is built in such a way that you remain in motion without much effort while at the same time getting some much-needed exercise. I am quite lazy when it comes to working out so the idea that I could lose some weight so easily was intriguing.
What I especially love about this low resistance bike is the fact that I am able to get a continuous aerobic workout. The bike is designed to be hands-free, forcing you to sit up straight while cycling. This helps to straighten your core as you burn calories and lose weight.
Want to multitask while working out? No problem at all! Thanks to the advanced engineering, you can easily workout while watching TV, chatting with your friends or reading your favorite book. Designed with 8 resistance levels, I like that I can easily change the settings from minimal to workout level depending on how much I want to exercise on that day.
Now, if I hate working out, then I consider carrying around bulky objects a punishment. I was quite glad to find out that the Sit N Cycle exercise bike is lightweight weighing only 33 pounds. Besides, it comes with wheels that make it convenient for you to roll the bike to your favorite workout spot.
When buying workout equipment, most people do not pay attention to the amount of noise. With this exercise bike, you are sure to enjoy your workout as there is minimal noise from the bike itself.
You can also adjust the saddle position so that it best suits you. The best position is to have your feet reach the pedals with just a slight bend at your knees.
The bike does not come assembled and I wish the manufacturers would take this into consideration. Although the assembly is not that complicated, it is important to get everything right so as to have the bike working properly. It is important to note that there is a left pedal and a right one. During assembly, be sure to fix the left pedal by turning it anticlockwise. This way it won’t keep falling off.
You do not need to worry about the assembling as long as you follow the user-friendly manual guide that comes with the bike. There is still some positivity that comes with assembling your own bike; you learn how your bike works and there are Sit N Cycle replacement parts for any component you feel you need to change.
The only thing I did not like about the Sit N Cycle is the seat. The saddle is quite hard which means that after working out for quite some time, you end up being quite numb. To take care of this, you can use a gel seat cover or strap a cushioned air pillow to make the seat a bit more comfortable.
- I like that it has 8 resistance levels ranging from easy to moderate workout levels
- The adjustable seat to different heights makes it handy for different people
- With the user-friendly manual, the assembly is quite easy
- Its lightweight nature makes it easy to move around for use and storage
- It is quiet during operation
- It comes in five different colors so you can pick a favorite
- The seat is uncomfortable and you cannot change it
- You cannot change the resistance level unless you get off the bike
- It is only designed for moderate exercise levels
Other Comparable Products
As is the case with any product, there are quite a few others that can compare to its functionality. I went through quite a number of Sit N Cycle exercise bike reviews as well as those of similar products before I made my decision.
I must admit, the decision was not easy. This is because there are quite a number of other products that compare to it. Here are a few of them.
Around 35% of people around the world lead a sedentary lifestyle spending most of their days seated behind a desk. The fact that these people are so inactive means that they are more at risk of developing certain diseases. Now, most people would not want to leave their desks for a minute let alone for a workout session.
Now, what if there was a way for you to exercise without actually leaving your desk? It would be amazing, right? Well, the DeskCycle Exercise Bike allows you to do exactly that. Designed at the lowest available pedal height, the exercise bike can be used with desks as low as 27 inches. All you have to do is place it under the desk and pedal while you work.
Compared to other exercise bikes, the DeskCycle has more than twice the resistance range of other pedal exercisers. I also love the fact that it comes with 8 calibrated resistance settings ranging from easy to hard with the lowest resistance setting at one rotation per second.
The good thing is that you do not need to worry about the noise that could distract you as you work. Thanks to the magnetic resistance, you get smooth and quiet pedal work.
For a little motivation, you may want to know how much calories you burn at the end of every session. Well, the pedal exerciser comes with an online calorie calculator. It also comes with a little computer that you can place at the top of your desk. The computer has an LCD display that allows you to monitor your speed, distance, time as well as calories.
Something that wasn’t so great with the pedal exerciser is that it seemed to slide when used on a floor that was not carpeted. It is also not so comfortable for taller people as they will have to either adjust the desk height or sit at an awkward angle.
- It is easy to use and is quite effortless
- Tracking the number of calories that you burn is easy thanks to the tracker
- You do not have to worry about being a distraction as it is very quiet
- Assembling the parts is quite easy thanks to the user manual that is included in the packaging
- The pedals are large with adjustable Velcro straps making it suitable for different shoe sizes
- You can adjust the resistance settings to your preference
- The pedal exerciser is expensive as compared to other similar products
- It may not be such a great product for taller people
Almost similar to the DeskCycle is the Fit Desk Cycle Under Desk pedal exerciser. Just like the one above, you get to use this pedal exerciser as you work. With this pedal exerciser, you can turn any sedentary activity into a chance to burn some calories. Whether you are watching a show, reading a book or just relaxing, you can use the Fit Desk Cycle to get a bit active without leaving your comfort zone.
With a low rotation height of 9.75 inches, the pedal exerciser can be used with desks quite low up to 26 inches. It is suitable for any office or work environment thanks to its whisper quiet operation. The balanced flywheel together with the twin belt give the exercise bike its unmatched performance.
Like the other two above, the Fit Desk has a smooth resistance. With the 8 positions magnetic resistance, you can easily adjust the Fit Desk to varied exercise resistance and any fitness level.
What I especially liked about the Fit Desk as compared to the others was the hands-free easy foot shifter. Thanks to this feature, I was able to change the resistance level without having to stop working. The exerciser also has large pedals which are easy to locate and are comfortable both when in use or not.
With the display meter, you will conveniently be able to track your exercise. The meter can be mounted either on the cycle or on top of your desk. This will allow you to track your exercise speed, distance, as well as the calories, burned. You can also use the scan function.
- It fits perfectly under the desk even for low desks of up to 26 inches
- I like that I am able to change the resistance just by using my foot
- Assembling the exerciser is easy as there are very few pieces
- The pedals are quite comfortable and you can use them for a footrest when you are not pedaling
- It is well built and sturdy so that it does not move around as you use it.
- With continued use, the exerciser becomes louder and could be distracting to some people
- Even at the highest setting, the resistance seems to be a bit minimal
As compared to the other products in this article, I must admit that the portable pedal exerciser by Vive was quite unique – and I found it while scrolling through a Sit N Cycle review. This is because it not only allows you to strengthen your legs but you can use it for your arms as well. It is a great product to use for toning muscles, increasing stamina and improving concentration while you work.
A unique feature of this product is the compact design. Sitting at 9 inches, the exercise pedaller is able to fit and be used under just about any desk. For compact storage and portability, the legs fold under.
And you do not have to worry about the bike exerciser moving around when you use it. Because of the low profile design, the exerciser does not wobble and slide while in use. It also has non-slip rubber feet that ensure the pedal exerciser does not move around when used on any surface. For every pedal, there’s also a non-slip surface and adjustable toe loops for added comfort and safety.
You can also get a personalized experience when using this pedal exerciser. All you have to do is adjust the tension levels. I found the low setting great for rehabilitation after surgery or injury. It can also be the perfect starting point for beginners.
With the touch of a button, you can easily access the large LCD screen display. The display allows you to track your exercise by showing your RPM, time, speed, distance and calories burned.
Assembling the exerciser should not be a problem as there are very few parts. What’s more, a manual is included in the package showing you how to assemble and use the portable pedal exerciser.
- Because of the foldable legs, the pedal exerciser takes up less space during storage
- The display allows you to track your exercise
- It does not move around when in use
- I especially found the non-slip pedals very comfortable and increased safety
- The variety of tension levels allows you to personalize your exercise
- It is great for rehabilitation after surgery or injury
- Taller people may have a hard time using the pedal exerciser
- The tension levels are a bit low if you are looking for an intense workout
What Is Included In The Package?
The package from the manufacturers will only include the Sit N Cycle bike and a user manual. I must admit, I was a bit disappointed as I expected some extra accessories along with the bike itself. The user manual is user-friendly and is easy to read and follow.
How To Lose Weight With The Sit N Cycle Bike
Of course, one of the biggest questions you would have before you purchase the Sit N Cycle is whether or not it will actually help you lose weight. Well, this Sit N Cycle review would not be complete if I did not tell you about my weight loss journey.
As I mentioned above, I have always been on the heavy side when it comes to my weight. So I was also not sure whether the bike would work.
I set out to use a workout regime. For the first month, I would only exercise once, in the morning, for about 30 minutes at low resistance. This was because as much as it is simply pedaling, you really feel the impact when you stand.
With time, I increased the resistance level as well as the time for every workout. Within two months, I was able to exercise both in the morning and evening for around an hour. Every time I felt myself getting comfortable, I would push myself a bit further.
As is the case with any exercise, it takes some time before you actually notice the difference. However, I could feel a change as early as within the first two weeks. Besides losing weight, the bike helps in strengthening the core.
If you are looking to lose weight, then I suggest you get a fitness regime. The regime should depend on how fit you are and how much time you can exercise each day. Switch up the settings as you go along.
However, the most important thing to bear in mind is that you need to be consistent for you to get some positive results. I did not find the consistency to be a problem since the Sit N Cycle is quite comfortable to use.
Before And After
I must admit, most people did not believe that I had lost weight just from sitting and cycling. Just before I started using the pedal exerciser, I weighed 200 pounds. However, I was able to lose 50 pounds in two months.
I have not yet achieved my target weight. However, I feel as though I am making so much progress. I have decided to keep using the Sit N Cycle daily until I get to where I want to be.
There are quite a number of complementary products that you can use with the Sit N Cycle.
I, for one, recommend trying out this gel seat cover. As I had mentioned before, the seat is quite hard and working out for some time will leave you numb. With this gel seat cover, you can make the Sit N Cycle more comfortable. As we all know, a comfortable workout will definitely impact your consistency.
If you are not planning to work out while reading a book or doing anything that requires the use of your hands, then you can consider buying some weights or dumbbells. Seeing as the Sit N Cycle only allows you to work out your lower body and core, the dumbbells could be a great way to tone your arm muscles while pedaling.
Sit N Cycle vs. Marcy Recumbent Exercise Bike
The Marcy recumbent exercise bike is quite similar to the Sit N Cycle. This makes it quite a difficult decision choosing between the two. So, how does the Sit N Cycle compare to the Marcy Recumbent Exercise Bike? Here is a brief summary:
|Product||Sit N Cycle Low Resistance Exercise Bike||The Marcy recumbent exercise bike|
|Overall Design||Saddle with pedals for cycling.|
Ergonomically designed saddle with high-density foam.
Contoured foam-covered handles for extra support
|Weight||33 lbs||60 lbs
|LCD Display||None||A computer screen that acts as odometer and displays time, speed, distance, and calories burned
|Resistance||8 resistance levels||8 resistance levels|
The saddle is furnished with comfortable high-density foam. The handles are covered with foam so as to provide extra support to the back and arms. This helps to maintain a proper posture during exercise.
Seeing as the Sit N Cycle does not have any handlebars, mounting and dismounting the pedal exerciser can be quite a problem. This is not the case when it comes to the Marcy Recumbent exercise bike. The step-through design used to manufacture the bike makes it easy to get on and off the exerciser. The design also allows for maximum mobility during training.
The Marcy Recumbent exercise bike is similar to the Sit N Cycle in that it also comes with 8 levels of resistance which use a magnetic resistance mechanism. I especially love the tension knobs feature on this exercise bike. Using the tension knobs, you are able to customize the workout by controlling difficulty. Through this, you are able to get the feel of riding on different terrains.
When using a pedal exerciser, it is important to have maximum foot support. For the Marcy Recumbent exercise bike, the weighted pedals are designed to provide maximum foot support without compromising on ultimate control. The adjustable foot straps help to create the perfect fit for your feet ensuring comfort and safety. This is quite the contrast to the Sit N Cycle. The latter pedal exerciser does not have foot straps. This means that there is minimal foot support when training on the bike.
Another major difference between the Marcy Recumbent and the Sit N Cycle is the provision of an LCD display. The LCD computer screen is placed in a way that you can read the display while working out. Besides being an odometer, the screen has a panel display that shows the time taken for the workout, the distance covered and the number of calories burned. It also shows the speed at which you are cycling. These are displayed in extra large numbers for greater readability. With the Sit N Cycle, you are not able to track your exercise as there is no LCD display provided.
- The bike is quite stable and easy to get on and off
- It has a high weight limit of around 300lbs
- The ergonomically designed saddle makes it very comfortable when working out
- The different resistance settings allow one to customize their workout routine
- Assembling the exercise bike is quite easy thanks to the user-friendly instructions
- The highest resistance is not as high as some people would like
- Although it has a higher weight limit, it gets a bit wobbly when heavier people are using the bike to exercise
What’s In The Package?
The shipping package that you will get from the manufacturer will include pieces of the Marcy Recumbent exercise bike. Unfortunately, the bike does not come fully assembled and you will have to assemble it yourself.
I found it quite easy to assemble the exercise bike as it comes with a manual. The instructions are easy to read and follow and are written in a humorous way. This makes the whole process much easier and faster. I was done within a couple of minutes.
While the package does not come with any extra accessories, you can decide to buy a few of your own. A pair of dumbbells, for example, can prove to be quite convenient for toning up the arm muscles as you work on your legs.
The Marcy Recumbent exercise bike comes with a manufacturer’s 2-year limited warranty. This way, you are sure that the manufacturer’s have faith in their product.
More people are now leading busy lives. This makes it harder to get some time off to go to the gym or keep fit.
However, with products like the Sit n Cycle and the Marcy Recumbent exercise bike, going to the gym may not be necessary at all. While they do not offer the best workout regime for your body, they are much better than spending all day seated in a desk.
The Sit N Cycle is quite similar to the Marcy Recumbent Exercise Bike. Both products are pedal exercisers. This means that the workout is achieved by cycling on the stationary bikes. While it may seem like an easy task, the cycling is actually a great workout and one is able to break a sweat and burn quite a number of calories.
Both exercise bikes have 8 resistance levels. I especially love this feature as it allows you to customize your workout switching up the difficulty levels.
There are a couple of differences between the two pedal exercisers, the major one being in the overall design. The Sit N Cycle is designed to be used hands-free. While this is great for maintaining an upright posture during the workout, it does become a bit difficult to get on and off. The Marcy Recumbent, on the other hand, comes with a comfortable seat which allows you to workout while leaning back.
Another major difference between the two is the fact that there is no LCD display when it comes to the Sit N Cycle. For some people, tracking their workouts is important hence the need for an odometer and calories burned calculator which are both features of the Marcy Recumbent exercise bike.
Overall, I prefer the Sit N Cycle to the Marcy Recumbent exercise bike. This is because of its simplistic design which makes it much easier to move it around. I love being able to work out in different places and the lightweight nature of this exercise bike makes it possible to do so.
The hands-free design is also something I have come to enjoy. Although mounting and dismounting the Sit N Cycle can be tedious, the design forces you to sit upright, therefore, strengthening your core and back. The fact that your hands are free during workout also means that you get to do anything else. You can, for example, read a book or newspaper while exercising.
One major setback I experienced with the Sit N Cycle was the hard seat. However, after the addition of a gel seat cover, working out has been smooth.
If you are looking to burn some calories at home, then the Sit N Cycle is certainly worth having a look at. I must admit, I am feeling much better now that I have been able to lose a couple of pounds.
